    Burlington Gate – Native Land’s Mayfair Development near completion

    Specialist contractor Multiplex and Native Land, the investment and development company behind award winning developments NEO Bankside, Cheyne Terrace and 10 Montrose Place, marked the final stages of construction for their newest development, Burlington Gate in Mayfair.

    Professional teams and key subcontractors from across the development process were invited by main contractor Multiplex to attend the topping out ceremony of Native Land’s landmark Mayfair project which was designed by leading architectural practice, Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners.

    Alasdair Nicholls, Chief Executive of Native Land commented: “We are delighted with the progress of the construction at Burlington Gate. The team has done a great job to deliver this project to such a high standard and we look forward to continuing our long-term relationships with all those we have worked with on this development.”

    Having purchased the property from Standard Life in 2012, an investment consortium comprising Hotel Properties Limited (HPL), Amcorp and Native Land, with Native Land acting as Development Manager, secured planning for the comprehensive redevelopment of the site in 2014 and Burlington Gate is now in the final stages of construction.

    Graham Stirk, Senior Partner at Rogers Stirk Harbour + Partners and design partner on the project, said: “Burlington Gate is an example of how architecture can be both modern and respectful of tradition. The building has a calm and structured exterior reflecting the importance of this very ordered, historic area. A public arcade interrupts this calm, allowing glimpses into an exotic world within – an ‘Alice through the looking glass’ experience if you wish. The synergy of the arcade, its associated galleries, and the residential building, are drawn together as one experience to create a sense of place enhancing its unique Mayfair surroundings.”

    Burlington Gate will comprise 42 apartments, with hotel style amenities, together with extensive gallery spaces on the ground and lower ground floors. A highlight of the project is a new public arcade, which is the first in Mayfair since the 1930’s. This dynamic public space will create a through route between Old Burlington Street and Cork Street.

    The project will also contribute approximately £6 million to Westminster City council for affordable housing as part of the Section 106 Agreement, as well as extensive improvements to Cork Street. Native Land’s public realm improvements are the catalyst to a wider ‘East Mayfair’ initiative being coordinated by Westminster City Council, that will see improvements including resurfacing, landscaping, seating and parking and loading management being made to a number of streets in Mayfair’s luxury retail, arts and fashion district.
